1. To board a plane or tain to Tibet you need a Tibet Tourism Bureau permit, and to get this you must book a guide for your entire trip and pre-arrange transport for trips outside of Lhasa.
2. Travel outside Lhasa requires additional permits, arranged in advance by your tour company so you need to decide your itinerary beforehead.
3. A travel agency like us needs 10 or 14 days to arrange permits and post you the TTB permit (the original permit is required if flying).
4. Entering Tibet from Nepal you have to travel on a short-term group visa, which can make it tricky to continue into the rest of China.
