How to get to Tibet?
There are many ways to travel to Tibet, depending on where you plan to start your journey from, how quickly you want to get there, and how adventurous you choose to be. After getting you Tibet Travel Permits, traveling to Tibet is easy! Usually, we recommend you take a flight to Lhasa Gongga Airport, or take a train on Qinghai-Tibetan Railway to Lhasa.
Way 1: Travel to Tibet by Flight: Fast but Expensive
For foreign visitors to China, the travelling time may be limited. So undoubtedly, nothing is more convenient than taking a flight to Tibet. Nowadays, tourists can fly to Tibet from the big cities of China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xining, Shangri-La, or Kathmandu in Nepal. Usually, the flight ticket have any discount all the year round.
Notes:
1. Remember to arrive at the airport about 2 hours before its departure; it takes time for passing the security checking.
2. When pass the security, show out your ticket, your passport and the Tibet Travel Permits.
3. In past few years, most foreign tourists would like to get into Tibet by air from Chengdu to Lhasa. Because Chengdu is the economic and cultural center of southwestern China, also is the city closest to Lhasa. It takes only two hours flying from Chengdu to Lhasa.
Way 2: Travel to Tibet by Train: the cheapest
Taking a train to Tibet is the cheapest way and the best way to adapt the high altitude. Since July 1st, 2006, the opening of the highest railway, Qinghai-Tibetan Railway, makes more and more people like to take one-way train to Tibet, and to enjoy the unique sceneries: snow-capped mountains, boundless grassland, beautiful holy lakes, flock of sheep, various wildlives, vast gobi and desert.
Nowadays, there are direct trains to Tibet from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xining, Chongqing and Guangzhou, and the train from Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou will stop at Xian.

1. Remember to show out your train ticket, your passport and the Tibet Travel Permits when pass the security.
In past few years, most foreign tourists would like to get into Tibet by train from Beijing, which leads to getting a soft sleeping ticket hard. So, we recommend you to take a flight to Xining and than take a train to Lhasa.
Way 3: Travel to Tibet by Road: long time, expensive, difficult
In addition to flight and train, some travelers would like to take a 4 wheel vehicle to Tibet. In these years, with the fast road construction, the road condition becomes better and better year by year, but it is also difficult route to Tibet by driving.
At present, there are five highways to Tibet: Qinghai-Tibet Highway, Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, Sichuan-Tibet Highway, Yunnan-Tibet Highway and Sino-Nepal Highway. And it takes at least a weet and costs a big sum of expense.
1. Qinghai-Tibet Highway (1947km):
Xining – Daotang River – Chaka – Golmud – Wu Daoliang – Tuotuoheyan – Yanshiping – Tanggula Pass – Amdo – Nagqu – Damxung – Yangbajain – Lhasa
2. Xinjiang-Tibet Highway (2743km):
Yecheng – Rutog – Gar – Drongpa – Saga – Ngamring – Lhasa
3. Sichuan-Tibet Highway
North Route (G317, 2423km): Chengdu – Yaan – Ganzi – Dege – Chinsha River Bridge – Jiangda – Qamdo – Basu – Bome – Lhasa
South Rout (G318, 2099km): Yaan – Erlang Mountain – -Dadu River – Yalong River – Chinsha River – Langchang River – Ru River – Ya River – Li Tang – Ba Tang – Mang Kang – Zogang – Basu – Baxoi – Ranwu – Bome – Nyingchi – Maizhokunggar – Lhasa
4.Yunnan-Tibet Highway (2222km)
Kunming – Xiaguan – Dali – Lijiang – Zhongdian – Deqen – Yanjing – Markam – Baxoi – Nyingchi – Lhasa
5.Sino-Nepal Highway
Shigatse – Tingri – Nyalam – Zhangmu – Friendship Bridge – Kathmandu
